Down & Feather Manufacturing Process

Naturtex - Processes

Hungary is one of the few places remaining in Europe where geese are still widely raised in the countryside. Our geese are raised in special climate in Hungary and protect themselves from extreme cold in winter with large cluster down and extreme warm in summer with pure bright white feathers. Geese farming has a long tradition in Hungary, and the industries associated with goose and down products are sophisticated and regulated.

The process of down and feather manufacturing

Receiving raw material

Naturtex is working with selected down & feather suppliers from Hungary. Animal welfare, ecological and social responsibility and quality are our and our partners´highest priority.

1.

Sorting

During this process feather and down is separated.

2.

Washing

Ever since the company was founded, the down factory has been located above a natural geothermal spring. from a depth of more than 800m we get 32°C warm water which we use to wash our down and feathers many times more than our competitors. This also reduces the use of cleaning agents.

3.

Drying process

The washing process is followed by spinning in a centrifuge, afther which the down and feathers are dried. This is achieved with a thermal oil technology specially developed for Naturtex. At a temperature of 135°C, we not only shorten the drying time and therefore protect the down, but also 99.99% of microbes are eliminated at this temperature. The results are impressive.

4.

IDFL certificated laboratory

Naturtex operates an IDFL certificated laboratory which conducts over 3,500 tests a year. Every worldwide norm for down can be fulfilled, along with individual specification requests.

5.

Results

With an oxygen value of less than 4.5mg/100g, our down is classified as ‘hypoallergenic’. We also achieve maximum values for turbidity (>1000mm glass tube test IDFL) which are the highest in the industry.

6.

Shipping

The last step of the process is to ship the final products to it’s transit location according to costumers’ requirements.
